Okay, we think not enough alcolades has been given to the head of the Beyhive Nation, so we are doing it. Over the past few years, she has gifted $7 million dollars for the Knowles-Temenos Place Apartments in her hometown of Houston. Why wasn't this front page news in the philanthropy world?
We have to admit, it takes a lot to get donors to give at the level of one million dollars, let alone 7! That's life-changing--and a phenomenal humanitarian gesture. "She’s an incredible human being,” stated Rev. Rudy Rasmus, of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, who led the efforts to provide affordable housing to Houston's homeless.
The apartments opened in 2009, and provides affordable permanent housing to 43 single individuals in efficiency-style apartments. In addition to the housing unit, each resident has access to supportive services, including but not limited to, job searching ad preparation skills, educational classes, budgeting, nutrition and case management services.
